Eating: We just recently introduced "solid" food. For the first few days barely any of the food made it into his belly. It got all over his face, hands, table, etc... but not much into the mouth. He was just practicing. On Sunday it seemed like something clicked and he understood what to do. The last two days he has been chowing down pears and bananas. So far he has tried sweet potato, pears, and bananas. Coming soon are carrots and avocados. I have to admit, I don't have much patience for the rule that says you should wait 3-4 days before introducing new foods.
Sleep: not much improvement here, and Caiden is all over the map. Some days he will sleep soundly and get up once to eat. Those nights are great. Other nights he will wake up 4 times. Some nights he won't really wake up, but will cry in his sleep (just long enough to wake me up). And no two nights are the same. Some nights he'll wake every hour until midnight and then be out for the rest of the night. Other nights he'll make it until 2am but wake up every hour after that. Not sure what to do here. We went without using the pacifier for 3 weeks, and that didn't make a difference. I recently stopped nursing him right before putting him to bed. Not much difference there either. We've tried putting him to bed earlier. We've tried putting him to bed later. He always falls asleep easily, but keeping him asleep is proving to be a challenge.
Activity/Skills: Caiden can sit steady. I love it! It makes daycare drop off so much better- I can just plop him on the play mat and give him some toys. Apparently he rolls over from stomach to back during tummy time at daycare occasionally (hasn't done that at home in a long time). Still no rolling from back to front despite our coaxing.
He likes to bounce in his jumperoo thing, and recently discovered that he can jump in the ExerSaucer as well. He really gets going in there, it is quite noisy and funny.
Bath time: Solid food means more bath time is needed. We have stopped using the bath hammock and just sit him in the tub. I keep one hand on him at all times though. He is still indifferent about baths. They don't make him upset, but he doesn't smile in there either. I am going to pick up some bath toys soon- maybe that will help.
Body and Hair: We had a pants problem last week. Caiden is still all torso and has short little legs. 12 month pants became too tight of a squeeze around his waist, but 18 month pants are ridiculously long and baggy on him everywhere but the waist. So, Nanna Nan whipped up a bunch of Caiden sized pants. Thanks, Nanna! As for hair, perhaps you've noticed that as Caiden's hair grows, it's growing UP. He has some super fluffy hair that sticks up on top, but it's still short on the sides and back. It's funny. This is not a good picture, but gives you a good idea of what the hair looks like.
Sometimes the daycare people have fun giving him hairdos and he comes home looking like this :)
New ride: Great Grandmom Ruth's visit at the end of March came at a perfect time. She was nice enough to buy us a near car seat- the next step up, a convertible. Thanks GG! Two days after the purchase Caiden officially outgrew his infant car seat. We had to raise the shoulder height, but that left too little slack for the straps to make it around his waist. So we made the switch. He seems to like the new seat!
And finally... I will leave you with some photos that Aunt Elizabeth took this week.
